The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) at Multan Airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle cocaine, arresting a foreign national who had ingested dozens of drug-filled capsules. The individual, who had arrived from Muscat, was found with 48 capsules of cocaine in his stomach, according to a report by Express News.
An ANF spokesperson stated that the total weight of the capsules was 624 grams. The arrested person, identified as an Angolan national, was apprehended as part of a broader nationwide crackdown on drug smuggling.
This case highlights the increasing involvement of foreign nationals, particularly from African countries, in drug trafficking activities in Pakistan. A recent report revealed that a significant number of foreigners implicated in smuggling cases this year have been from African nations.
The suspect has been charged under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the smuggling operation.
Last month, ANF arrested a Nigerian national at Lahore International Airport for drug smuggling. The suspect, who had traveled from Nigeria via Dubai, was found with 38 cocaine-filled capsules in his stomach, containing a total of 608 grams of cocaine.
In 2023, ANF arrested 10 Nigerian nationals in similar cases, seizing 4.811 kilograms of drugs in total. This year, authorities have already conducted seven operations, resulting in the arrest of eight Nigerian individuals and the recovery of 11.420 kilograms of narcotics.
