A retired army major who was kidnapped from the Defence Housing Authority on Saturday was safely recovered after 14 hours of captivity when the abductors released him on their own in North Nazimabad on Sunday.
DIG-South Syed Asad Raza stated that retired Major Ahmed Waseem was abducted around 12:25 p.m. on Saturday from the parking lot of Bilal Masjid near Khayaban-i-Ittehad by three individuals in a white car.
The kidnapping was orchestrated by the victim’s nephew, Muhammad Noorul Ain Qazi, who coordinated with his accomplices and the victim’s family to demand ransom.
A joint team, comprising police officials, the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), and an intelligence agency, tracked down Qazi’s location in Nazimabad-3. However, when they arrived, Qazi and his wife had already fled. Half an hour later, the kidnappers dropped Major Waseem in North Nazimabad, where he contacted his family with the help of a taxi driver. He was then taken to the Hyderi Market police station, where his family and the investigation team met him.
DIG Raza revealed that Qazi, who had a criminal history and was released from prison a few months earlier, had two FIRs registered against him at the Ferozabad and Yousuf Plaza police stations.
The DIG acknowledged that no arrests had been made yet and confirmed that although the retired major was not physically harmed, he endured “mental stress” during his 14 hours in captivity, with his hands tied the entire time.
A case was filed at the Gizri police station under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to confine) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code based on a complaint by the retired major’s son, Saud Waseem.
