Two street criminals snatched a handbag from the wife of a British diplomat just a day before the family departed from the federal capital, police reported on Monday.

Security Adviser at the British High Commission, Jonathon Wilson, informed DIG Syed Ali Raza of the incident and requested an FIR be filed, asking to be contacted when the handbag is recovered.

A case has been registered at Kohsar police station under section 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code (theft with preparation for causing harm, injury, or restraint to commit the theft).

The diplomat reported to the high commission that two individuals on a motorcycle had snatched his wife’s handbag. The incident occurred on September 25, the day before the diplomat and his family were set to leave Islamabad for his next posting, a police officer told Dawn.

He explained that the diplomat and his wife were walking back after visiting F-6 Markaz when the criminals grabbed the bag from her shoulder on Aga Khan Road.

The handbag contained personal items, including UK debit and credit cards, a mobile phone valued at Rs270,000, a Nokia phone, 350 British pounds, and local currency.
