Pakistan’s Fayaz Khan emerged victorious in the Men’s 50-plus category at the German Masters 2024 squash tournament on Sunday.
Fayaz delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, culminating in a strong showing in the final against Ireland’s David Ayerst. He secured the title with a 3-1 win, taking the match 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8.
In his semi-final match, Fayaz demonstrated his prowess by defeating Denmark’s Mikkel Kragholm in straight sets, winning comfortably 11-8, 11-4, 11-7.
His dominance was clear from the start of the tournament, beginning with a commanding 3-0 victory over Germany’s Torge Strupat in the first round.
Fayaz continued his winning streak by eliminating Germany’s Thomas Dörnhoff in the quarterfinals, further establishing his form ahead of the later rounds.
The event took place in the city of Hamburg from October 4th to 6th, being organized by the German Squash Association aka the Deutscher Squash Verband (DSQV).
Pakistan will hope that this will be a continuation of the nation’s squash resurgence on the global stage. Young stars such as Ashab Irfan and Asim Khan have already been impressive this year, with strong showings at events like the 2024 Charlottesville Open Squash Championship, the Jones Creek Open Squash Championship, the Wild Card Challenger event as well as the Squash Inspire Challenger, all of which took place in the USA.
