Pakistan’s Mehwish Ali emerged victorious at the Nordic Junior Open Squash Championship held in Sweden. Her remarkable performance throughout the tournament culminated in a straight-set victory in the final, where she defeated France’s second seed, Ciara Boulanger, with scores of 11-5, 11-7, 12-10.
Entering the tournament unseeded, Mehwish’s journey to the title was marked by a series of dominant performances. She began her campaign in Group D, where she showcased her prowess by defeating Norway’s Vilde Odeh and Denmark’s Camilla Thomsen, both with convincing 3-0 victories. These early wins set the stage for her impressive run through the knockout stages.
In the quarter-finals, Mehwish faced a unique challenge as she went up against her sister, Mahnoor Ali, in a closely contested match. Demonstrating both skill and composure, Mehwish emerged victorious, advancing to the semi-finals. There, she faced Belgium’s Alice Allard, securing her place in the final with another commanding performance.
Mehwish’s triumph in Sweden adds to her growing list of achievements, which includes a bronze medal at the Danish Junior Open last month. Her success is not only a personal milestone but also a significant boost for Pakistan’s presence in junior squash, highlighting her as one of the country’s rising stars.
The Ali family had further reason to celebrate, as Mehwish’s sisters, Sehrish and Mahnoor, also delivered commendable performances at the Nordic Open, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
