Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy A16 5G, bringing several noteworthy upgrades that make it stand out in the budget smartphone segment.
One of the most significant highlights is the unprecedented 6-year software support. The updates include both Android version updates and security patches. This long-term commitment ensures that the Galaxy A16 5G will stay qualified and receive the latest Android features until October 2030. This level of support is rare, especially for a budget-friendly device, giving the A16 5G a substantial edge over its competitors.
The Galaxy A16 5G comes with a larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, offering FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400) and a 90Hz refresh rate.
The phone has slimmed down to just 7.9 mm, giving it a sleek and modern look and hand feel. However, Samsung has dropped the 3.5mm headphone jack, which may be a drawback for users who prefer wired audio solutions. The phone has an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning it can withstand light splashes and dust exposure.
There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button.
The Galaxy A16 5G comes in three color options: Midnight Blue, Turquoise, and Gray.
According to Samsung France, the Galaxy A16 5G has an impressive 8.4/10 repairability score, which is similar to its predecessor, the A15 5G. This suggests that it will be easier to repair, potentially reducing long-term maintenance costs.
The device features different chipsets depending on the region. In Europe, it will come equipped with the Exynos 1330, whereas markets like India and Thailand will receive the Dimensity 6300. These are mid-range processors designed to handle everyday tasks smoothly, along with proper performance in light gaming.
The A16 5G will ship with One UI 6.1, which is based on Android 14. Samsung’s custom One UI offers a smooth and user-friendly interface with countless customization options and convenient features.
It offers 4GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage. Additionally, the Galaxy A16 5G supports microSD cards up to 1.5TB, which is ideal for users who need ample storage space for apps, media, and documents.
Housed in a waterdrop notch, the phone includes a 13MP front-facing camera, as good as it can be for selfies and video calls for this price.
It packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, so users can somewhat quickly recharge their phones when needed, reducing downtime.
It is listed at €249 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant on Samsung France. Shipments are expected to start soon in Europe, with rollouts to other markets likely to follow.
