Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced an initiative to deliver insulin to children with type-1 diabetes directly to their homes. Speaking at a special health sector meeting on Friday, she revealed that special cards would be introduced to ensure the supply of insulin to sick children.
The government-approved company will handle distribution while adhering to cold chain protocols and other SOPs. The pilot project will be launched in three districts, including Lahore, with applications available through a dedicated app or helpline.
In addition, Maryam Nawaz directed the rebranding of Basic Health Units (BHUs) as ‘Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics’ to enhance healthcare services in remote regions. She approved the establishment of performance management frameworks and KPIs to monitor the efficiency of healthcare staff.
Additionally, she greenlit the construction of labs in hospitals located in Mianwali, Jhang, Layyah, Attock, and Jhelum. In celebration of International Girls’ Day, the chief minister highlighted the vital role girls play in the future of the nation, encouraging them to be courageous and ambitious.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to support girls in realizing their dreams. Initiatives such as e-bikes, virtual police stations, the pink button, and scholarships have been introduced to promote the safety, education, and empowerment of women and girls in Punjab.
