Babar Azam Set to be Dropped for 2nd Test

According to reports, Babar Azam’s place in the Test side is under threat as he is most likely set to be dropped from the side for the 2nd Test match against England.

Babar’s poor run of form has been a major cause of concern for the national side as the middle-order batter has failed to score even a half-century in his previous 18 Test innings (9 matches) which has taken him to one of the worst performing batters in the world over the past year.

After yet another failure in the 1st Test, scoring only 35 runs across two innings, the criticism against Babar Azam picked up even more pace as he failed to perform on a flat pitch. A pitch where Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, Salman Ali Agha scored centuries while Joe Root scored a magnificent double ton and Harry Brook scored a sensational triple-century.

With Pakistan’s new selection committee, consisting of Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Hasan Cheema, Aqib Javed and former umpire, Aleem Dar, in-charge of selecting the squad for the second Test, it is likely that Babar will be replaced by either Kamran Ghulam or Mohammad Huraira in the side.

After losing the first Test by an innings and 47 runs, Pakistan will be looking to bounce back or play for some pride as the second Test commences in Multan on 15 October. Only time will tell if it was a good decision to drop Babar from the squad.
