French football phenom Kylian Mbappe has reportedly found himself in legal trouble in Sweden after being accused of a heinous crime.
According to reports, the Swedish legal authorities are looking into claims of sexual assault against the striker. Swedish authorities confirmed that an investigation had been launched following a complaint, but they did not disclose any names linked to the case.
Police officials also refused to release further details, citing concerns about compromising the investigation.
Kylian Mbappe took to X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss any such reports, declaring them “FAKE NEWS”.
“It’s becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance”, he wrote referring to his ongoing dispute with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), over unpaid wages.
The French forward is currently embroiled in a legal battle with PSG, seeking €55 million in unpaid wages. He was notably absent from France’s recent Nations League matches, a move his team linked to the timing of the report. His entourage hinted at the suspicious nature of the story’s release, given its proximity to an important hearing with the French league.
Mbappe’s representatives also released a statement, condemning the Swedish report in question as “completely false and irresponsible.” They stressed that legal action would be pursued to defend the Frenchman’s reputation and challenge what they described as repeated “defamatory treatment.”
The 25-year-old is currently absent from international duty as he recovers from a minor niggle ahead of his return to club football.
