Australia Announces 2025 Ashes Schedule with a Surprise Inclusion

Cricket Australia has announced the schedule for the 2025/26 Ashes series against England with a surprise inclusion of a Day-Night Test during the five-Test series next Australian summer.

Perth has been chosen to host the Ashes opener from November 21-25, 2025 for the first time in 43 years, a venue where the English side has never played a Test match. The second Test will be a Day-Night fixture with a pink-ball under lights in Brisbane from December 4-8 before the action shifts to Adelaide from December 17-21 followed by a traditional Boxing Day Test, beginning on December 26 at the MCG. Sydney will play host to the fifth and final game from January 4-8.

Perth Stadium was originally scheduled to host the fifth Test of the 2020-21 Ashes series before it was moved to Hobart’s Bellerive Oval due to Western Australia’s COVID-19 restrictions.

2025-26 NRMA Insurance Men’s Ashes Series Schedule:

Test Venue Dates
1st Test Perth Stadium November 21-25, 2025
2nd Test The Gabba December 4-8, 2025
3rd Test Adelaide Oval December 17-21, 2025

This will be the first time in over 40 years that the Ashes series will not start at the Gabba, with Perth becoming the eighth Australian venue to host an Ashes Test since the rivalry began in 1877. The last time the Ashes began outside Brisbane was in 1982-83.

Australia has won the last eight Ashes Tests held in Perth, with the closest result being England’s 150-run defeat in 2013-14 when Australia reclaimed the urn.

England last won a Test in Australia at the SCG in 2011, and since then, they have recorded 13 losses and two draws. Meanwhile, Australia has won six Tests and drawn four in England during the same period.

Australia has not surrendered the Ashes since their 2017-18 series victory on home soil and will be looking to keep the coveted trophy with them once again.
