Abu Dhabi is set to become the next location for a landmark Las Vegas-style Sphere, as announced by the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) on Tuesday, October 15. This new venue will offer residents and visitors a groundbreaking way to experience events, concerts, and shows, with a capacity 20,000, similar to the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas. The attraction is expected to draw visitors year-round.
While the exact location of the Sphere in Abu Dhabi has not yet been disclosed, DCT noted that it will be situated in a prime area of the emirate. James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, commented, “Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact.”
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to bring Sphere to Abu Dhabi in partnership with Sphere Entertainment. It will provide our residents and visitors with an extraordinary new form of entertainment, combining cutting-edge technology with immersive storytelling for unforgettable experiences.”
Under the partnership, which is still being finalized, DCT Abu Dhabi will pay Sphere Entertainment a franchise fee for the rights to build the venue, incorporating its proprietary designs, technology, and intellectual property. DCT Abu Dhabi will fund the construction, while Sphere Entertainment’s team will provide expertise for the development, construction, and pre-opening phases.
