The future of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, set to be hosted by Pakistan, is under the spotlight as the International Cricket Council (ICC) convenes a crucial meeting in Dubai from October 18 to 21.
During this meeting, officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will present comprehensive updates on the tournament’s preparations and the progress of various construction projects essential for the event.
The outcome of this meeting is critical for the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025. A significant point of discussion will be the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) stance on participating in matches held in Pakistan. The four-day meeting will include a board session dedicated to reviewing the tournament’s progress and addressing any concerns.
Officials from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), currently in Multan, are also expected to travel to Dubai for the meeting. This follows three previous visits by ICC delegations to Pakistan, all of which reported satisfaction with the ongoing preparations. Despite potential challenges posed by the BCCI, PCB officials remain resolute in their commitment to hosting the prestigious event in Pakistan.
According to the proposed schedule, Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. The BCCI is currently awaiting government approval to confirm its participation in matches scheduled to be played in Pakistan, a decision that could significantly impact the tournament’s dynamics.
The tournament will see matches hosted across three major cities: Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Lahore is set to be the focal point, hosting seven matches, including the final. Karachi will have the honor of staging the opening match and one of the semi-finals, while Rawalpindi will host five matches, including the other semi-final.
