The salaried class paid Rs. 111 billion or 1,550 percent higher tax than traders during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, according to data from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
This figure is Rs. 40 billion or 56 percent more than taxes collected from salaried individuals in the same period last year.
Traders paid just Rs. 6.7 billion in taxes despite the 150 percent higher withholding tax rates on goods supplied. This is also despite FBR’s new Tajir Dost scheme, under which registered retailers paid only Rs. 1.2 million tax by mid-October.
Private sector employees paid Rs. 83 billion in income tax at extortionate rates of around 39 percent. Meanwhile, government employees paid Rs. 28 billion in taxes.
The International Monetary Fund’s recent $7 billion loan agreement shows that the government has placed a big tax burden on salaried individuals as it plans to raise personal and corporate income tax yields by Rs. 357 billion this fiscal year.

Salaried ki hi maro
Long Live FBR and Long Live ‘Justice’ in Pakistan. No country can prosper with this state of affairs. It is time for the salaried class to resort to trade union activities like the traders and others for the sake of their rights.
May they all get cancer and die who ruined Pakistan
of course, there are more salaried people than retailers lol
It’s the collective failure of our as a society. We always stand with politicians for no reason or with corrupt businessmen to benefit them and damage our colleagues. Once we learn to respect people and our rights fbr and industries can’t do anything that can taunt us every year.
While regional economies have thrived, even Sri Lanka, after defaulting, has made serious and constructive decisions for the betterment of the country. In contrast, our politicians and their supporters are reluctant to contribute even a penny in taxes to the government. When they do submit something, they often find ways to reclaim it through other means. If this system continues, we will be the only country in the region poised to fail solely due to this flawed approach to managing economic challenges.
No serious efforts have been made to boost exports, which is the only sustainable path to long-term prosperity. Unless the country produces goods and services that are in demand globally, we will remain stuck in a cycle of implementing excessive taxes, begging for financial aid, and being economically distracted.
Poor business men , retailers. Let’s establish fund to help them, also include agriculturist.
Govt and establishment should save their current status and must not take any action against them. They have salaried class to raise taxes.
