Pakistan Post has announced plans to automate all its post offices nationwide, including those in Karachi, by next year. According to Postmaster General (PMG) Karachi, Maqsood Ahmed Baloch, this modernization will also introduce round-the-clock services in each district of Karachi through night post offices.
Karachi has 179 post offices, though 15 smaller branches have been closed due to financial issues. The staff from these closed offices will be reassigned to other locations where required.
PMG Baloch highlighted that Pakistan Post is a crucial institution, offering services such as parcel delivery, money orders, and urgent document dispatch. The modernization project is focused on automating key post offices in Karachi first, with plans to roll out the system nationwide.
Employees will undergo training to efficiently manage the new systems, ensuring improved public services. Pakistan Post is also adjusting its business strategy to compete with private courier companies, focusing on increasing revenue and expanding service options.
Additionally, the postal service is moving into the e-commerce space to diversify its operations.
