Over a thousand teachers in Sindh have been found absent from duty, according to a report submitted by the Scrutiny Committee to the provincial education secretary.
The committee was formed to investigate the issue of ghost teachers after numerous complaints emerged in the province. Sources also revealed that many teachers are currently on extended leave abroad.
Following the report’s findings, the education secretary has instructed all district education officers (DEOs) to immediately stop the salaries of these absent teachers, with official notifications issued.
Previously, the Sindh education department dismissed eight ghost teachers who had been residing abroad but were still receiving salaries for the past two years. Secretary Akbar Leghari stated that taluka education officers across the province are working to identify more ghost teachers and warned of strict action against them.
