England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, was asked during a recent press conference if he plans to return to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 after he is done with the ongoing Test series.
The tournament, set to take place in Pakistan in February 2025, will be the country’s first time hosting an ICC event in over a decade.
The last time Pakistan hosted such a tournament was before the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, which led to a long ban on international cricket. Since the ban was lifted, Pakistan has hosted several bilateral series, and this tournament is highly anticipated.
In response to the question about his possible return, Stokes gave a short but playful reply, saying, “Wait till February!”
Ben Stokes, who captained England in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, was part of the squad during a challenging campaign that saw losses to teams like Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
After missing the first match due to injury, he returned to the side and regained captaincy of England from a deputizing Ollie Pope for the 2nd Test in Multan. Stokes struggled in the 2nd Test, scoring just 1 and 37 in his two innings and failing to take any wickets.
England couldn’t come up with an answer for Pakistan’s dominant performance underpinned by the spin twins Sajid Khan and Noman Ali and Pakistan pulled level. The series is currently tied 1-1, with the final and deciding Test underway at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
