Pakistan beat England by 9 wickets in the third test match at Rawalpindi cricket stadium to earn a 2-1 comeback win in the series.
With a modest target of 36 left to chase on the third day, Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique easily guided Pakistan home for their second comfortable win on the trot.
Things looked bleak for Pakistan after the first test before the intervention of Aaqib Javed as Pakistan went back to its roots of using their spinners to get the job done in friendly conditions.
The idea worked like a charm as Pakistan leveled the series in Multan through Noman Ali and Sajid Khan with the duo continuing their destruction in Rawalpindi against the helpless visitors. The record-breaking duumvirate took all ten of England’s wickets in past 3 of the four innings with Zahid Mahmood picking up one in the first innings of the final game.
The 2-1 test series win over England also gives Shan Masood his first trophy as captain of the Pakistan test cricket team.
It is Pakistan’s first series win since July 2023 when they beat Sri Lanka, It is also Pakistan’s first test series win over England since 2015.
The team’s focus will now shift to Australia with the conditions set to be drastically different from home. A squad announcement is expected soon.
