Pakistan set another record during the final test match against England at Pindi Cricket Stadium.
With Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, and Zahid Mahmood as the lead spinners on a favorable pitch, it was the first instance in the country’s bowling history that not a single fast bowler delivered a ball over the entire match. Aamer Jamal, the lone pacer in the team, was needed just as a fielder and a batter as the maverick duo of Noman and Sajid cleaned up the visitors with the ball.
It was nearly a similar story in the second test at Multan where Jamal was needed to throw down just 36 balls despite being the third-highest wicket-taker in tests for Pakistan over the past year. It is no secret who are the two players ahead of him with Sajid taking 22 and Noman contributing 20 in the same span.
The two were unleashed in Multan, setting records left and right with the story continuing in the Pindi test match. They bowled 89 overs between them consecutively across two tests before Zahid relieved them of their duties. They will likely partner up again during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa in the boxing day test.
Jamal, meanwhile, will logically be called upon during the upcoming limited series against Australia. With Shaheen, Naseem, and Hasnain likely to return he may not get much playing time but he has firmly established himself as part of the national team going forward.
