English Premier League club Manchester United have sacked Erik Ten Hag as manager of the club following a string of poor form. The 54-year-old Dutchman was notified on Monday morning after leading the team for two and a half years. Over the weekend, the team suffered a 2-1 away loss to West Ham.
The once mighty reds of Manchester have looked a pale imitation of their old selves, with United languishing in 14th in the Premier League table, as well as securing just one win from their last eight matches across all competitions.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.” said the club in an official statement.
Former Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who previously served as assistant manager under Ten Hag, will step in as interim head coach while the search for a permanent head coach is underway.
Ten Hag retained his position over the summer following a review by the club’s leadership, boosted by an FA Cup final win over rivals Manchester City in May.
This decision came despite United finishing last season in eighth place which happens to be their lowest Premier League standing to date but it seems that the powers that be at the club have run out of patience.
Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has been heavily rumored to replace Ten Hag.
