Govt Has Abolished 6,770 Posts At Ministries So Far

The federal government has abolished 4,816 positions from Grade 1 to Grade 22 across various ministries, divisions, and departments, declaring 1,954 positions as “dying” as part of its right-sizing policy.

This measure, aimed at reducing the administrative structure, resulted in a total of 6,770 posts being eliminated. The federal cabinet approved this austerity step on August 27, 2024.

Among the abolished positions are two in Grade-22, 22 in Grade-20, and additional reductions spanning grades down to Grade-1. This includes 4,360 non-gazetted and 456 gazetted posts. The dying positions encompass a mix of grades, primarily affecting lower and mid-level posts, with 578 in Grade-1 alone.

The Establishment Division has instructed all ministries and divisions to enforce the cabinet’s directive.
