The countdown to Ramadan has officially started, with just four months remaining until the holy month of fasting begins.
The Emirates Astronomy Society has announced that the crescent moon, marking the start of Jumada Al Awwal—the fifth month in the Islamic calendar and a key marker for predicting Ramadan’s dates—will be visible on November 3, 2024.
The crescent, expected to appear shortly after sunset, is essential in forecasting the start of Ramadan.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, indicated that Ramadan is likely to commence on March 1, 2025. However, the exact start date will depend on the traditional moon sighting conducted by the moon-sighting committee.
