Suzuki recently introduced the e Vitara, its first all-electric SUV, during an event in Milan. This marks a significant step for Suzuki as it enters the EV market with a model developed with Toyota and Daihatsu. The e Vitara will be available in Japan, Europe, and India by summer 2025, though pricing has not been revealed.
The e Vitara is larger than the hybrid Vitara, offering extra interior space with a wheelbase of 2,700mm and a length of 4,275mm. While it’s heavier than the hybrid version, this EV is designed for better acceleration and can travel up to 400 km on a single charge, depending on the battery size.
The exterior is inspired by Suzuki’s eVX concept, featuring bold wheel arches, a sloping roofline, and 18- to 19-inch alloy wheels. Although it retains a rugged look, it has a refined appearance suited for urban use. Inside, the SUV features a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, with practical elements like climate controls, a floating center console, and multiple charging ports.
The e Vitara sits on Suzuki’s new ‘Heartect-e’ EV platform, developed with Toyota and Daihatsu. It offers two battery sizes: 49kWh for entry-level models and 61kWh for higher versions. The 49kWh battery powers a front-wheel-drive motor with 142 horsepower, providing around 200 miles of range. The top-tier version, with dual motors and four-wheel drive, delivers 181 horsepower and features Suzuki’s AllGrip-e system, making it capable of handling rougher terrains.
Charging is efficient, with the e Vitara supporting up to 150kW fast charging. This allows the battery to reach 70% from 15% in about 30 minutes.
The e Vitara’s rear-seat space and 306-liter boot, however, may not meet expectations for long journeys, as the high floor could be uncomfortable for taller passengers. Additionally, the boot capacity is smaller than other SUVs in its class.
This model will also be shared with Toyota, who will release a version as part of its bZ EV lineup. Built in India, the e Vitara will begin production in spring 2025, and a starting price of around £30,000 is anticipated.
