Punjab Govt Announces Work From Home for All Offices Due to Smog in Four Divisions

In response to rising air pollution levels, the Punjab government has introduced a work-from-home policy for both public and private offices in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan divisions.

Under this new directive, workplaces will operate at 50% in-person capacity, with the remaining workforce expected to fulfill their duties remotely. The measure aims to reduce commuting-related pollution and limit residents’ exposure to the hazardous smog enveloping the region.

The decision was announced during a press conference in Lahore, where Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb outlined the government’s comprehensive approach to mitigating the health risks posed by the current smog crisis.

Aurangzeb explained that reducing daily travel and maintaining a lower number of employees on-site would alleviate congestion and help curb the emission levels in heavily affected areas.

Government departments have been instructed to use virtual platforms like Zoom to conduct meetings and communicate with employees.

Aurangzeb further emphasized that these temporary restrictions are necessary to address the severe health implications of the persistent smog, which has been exacerbated by cross-border winds carrying pollutants from neighboring regions.

The government has urged all organizations to cooperate fully and ensure compliance with the new measures to collectively ease the strain on air quality and contribute to the protection of public health.
