Nasser Hussain Points Out Babar Azam’s Technical Issue

Former England cricket team’s captain Nasser Hussain has pointed out Babar Azam’s biggest technical fault while batting which has plagued him in recent years and has caused a significant dip in his form.

According the Nasser, Babar gets squared up while batting which should not happen to a batter with a technique as refined as his. In an interview Nasser Hussain said,

He gets squared up a lot for a great player. Outside the fourth stump, he gets squared up and that’s what happened in the first test. He was doing that. As the great Ted Dexter said, you should play the ball beside the ball as opposed to getting behind it. Sometimes Babar tries to get behind it too much and he gets squared up. I’d advise him to play beside the ball. He’s good enough to do that.

Nasser Hussain is not the only one who has offered his wisdom to Babar during his run drought. Australia’s Ricky Ponting asked the 30-year-old to consider taking a break from the game to get back to his best.

India’s Virat Kohli suffered from a similar problem for a while during his skid. The prolific batter also became vulnerable to outswingers on the fourth stump before correcting his technique once again.

Babar, meanwhile, looked better in the first ODI against Australia after coming back to the team following a short break. He will look to continue building his confidence during the 2nd match ahead of an important period for Pakistan cricket.
