As the air quality index (AQI) in Rawalpindi and Islamabad reached 200 on Thursday, the district administrations, along with the departments of higher education, health, and environmental protection, issued a 12-point anti-smog advisory for citizens, including civil servants and students.
The new guidelines recommend that citizens wear masks and wash their hands, mouths, and eyes with clean water. They are also advised to wear glasses when outdoors, opt for full-sleeved clothing, avoid rubbing their eyes if they experience swelling or pain, and refrain from burning waste in homes, streets, neighborhoods, markets, rooftops, offices, colleges, and schools.
Additionally, residents are urged not to spray water on standing water in open areas or residential properties and are encouraged to drink 10 to 12 glasses of water daily, along with coffee, tea, and cold soups.
Motorcyclists are advised to wear masks while riding, and households, as well as office staff, should keep windows and doors closed. The guidelines also stress the importance of sweeping away dust or sand from clothes and bodies immediately.
