The Punjab Food Authority successfully thwarted a major attempt to distribute substandard milk in upscale areas of Lahore, as reported by 24NewsHD TV on Friday.
A total of 32,600 liters of harmful milk were disposed of, a case was filed, and the suspect was arrested at the scene.
During the operation, authorities seized over 1,136 kg of substandard ghee, three supply vehicles, 75 kg of powder, 50 kg of sugar, 17 drums, four mixing machines, two pumps, 160 empty tins, and sacks of powder.
Acting on the orders of the Director General (DG) of the Food Authority, food safety teams raided a dairy unit in Mohar, a suburb of Bhauni.
DG Food Authority, Asim Javed, explained that the fake milk was being produced by mixing powder, water, and thickening chemicals into substandard ghee. The mixture was then processed in blue drums using mixing machines to create milk resembling the original in both color and texture.
Javed further stated that highly toxic chemicals and sugar were being added to maintain the milk’s taste and appearance.
After a lengthy investigation, the suspect, who had been hiding in the village and producing fake milk, was apprehended red-handed.
The operation was carried out following the discovery of the supplier’s vehicles, mixing machines, blue drums, and tins of ghee at the dairy unit.
According to DG Food Authority, the accused had been supplying thousands of liters of fake milk, made with powder, substandard ghee, chemicals, and contaminated water, to high-end areas of Lahore daily.
The prepared milk was destroyed after it failed spot tests, Javed confirmed.
