Punjab authorities imposed fines worth Rs. 171.18 million in 24 hours on drivers of smoke-emitting vehicles to address smog.
Punjab Traffic Police reported issuing tickets to over 8,559 vehicles emitting smoke. Fitness certificates for 10 vehicles were suspended, while route permits for more than 12 vehicles were revoked.
FIRs were registered against 15 vehicles, and over 1,100 vehicles were stopped for emitting smoke. Additionally, heavy fines were imposed on 3,731 tractor trolleys carrying soil and sand without proper coverings.
The crackdown aims to improve air quality in Punjab, currently categorized as hazardous on the AQI index.
