In the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis, the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that 40,000 to 50,000 Pakistanis are illegally residing in Iraq while 8,000 are working legally.
The matter has been sent to the Federal Cabinet. According to the sources, in the in-camera meeting on the problems faced in the United Arab Emirates, the committee directed emergency measures to lift the visa ban and to take the Prime Minister into confidence if necessary.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis was held under the chairmanship of Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, in which the problems faced by Pakistanis living in the UAE and Iraq were examined. Pakistani citizens are employed in Iraq for 300 to 400 dollars, they are tortured, and passports are confiscated from Pakistani citizens upon arrival in Iraq, which was confirmed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis in a meeting.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while giving a briefing, said that 40 to 50 thousand Pakistanis are living in Iraq illegally, only 8 thousand are working legally, and 44 Pakistani agents are imprisoned in Iraq for the crime of human trafficking, the Bureau of Immigration said. That only the Pakistanis living illegally in Iraq have problems, the committee sent the matter to the federal cabinet committee to resolve the matter.
Regarding the United Arab Emirates, the chairman committee closed the meeting in camera, according to sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Overseas. After the briefing by the Pakistani, the committee directed to take emergency measures to lift the ban on visas and take the Prime Minister into confidence if necessary, while recommending Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take up the matter with the UAE government.
