Hindu Pilgrim Going to Gurdwara Nankana Sahib Shot Dead Despite Being Robbed

A Hindu pilgrim, who had come to Nankana Sahib to participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak, was shot and killed by robbers, who fled after stealing 300,000 rupees in cash.

Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Larkana and a father of four, was traveling by car with his friend Daulat Ram and their families from Lahore to Nankana Sahib for the festivities.

Near Islamabad village on Mananwala Road, five unidentified armed robbers deprived them of around Rs. 450,000. Despite robbing, the robber shot and killed Rajesh.

Upon learning of the tragedy, Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora and DPO Syed Nadeem Abbas rushed to the DHQ Hospital with a large police force.

At the DHQ Hospital, the Hindu and Sikh pilgrims protested the poor security arrangements, feeling increasingly unsafe and vulnerable. The pilgrims also requested that Rajesh Kumar’s last rites be conducted at the Janam Asthan Gurdwara, a holy site for them.

However, the police took the body to the morgue, where it was locked up, preventing anyone from taking it to the Gurdwara. Over 30 armed police officers were stationed at the morgue to ensure the body could not be taken for the final rites at Janam Asthan.
