The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) will be re-conducted on November 24 in Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to recent reports.
Over 17,000 students have registered for the retest, initially conducted by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) in September, but later challenged in the high court. Last month, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court declared the September 2024 MDCAT invalid.
The call for a retest came after students who had appeared for the MDCAT filed a petition, citing multiple issues with the exam. The petition, brought by six students, including Ammar Naeem, Shahzaib Wazir, and Saba Iman, named the federal government through the Health Ministry’s Secretary, the President of PMDC, the Vice-Chancellor of SZABMU, and the Chairman of the National Medical and Dental Board as respondents.
The students argued that 26-27 questions out of 200 were out of the syllabus, confusing, and claimed that the test papers were taken back after the exam, which should not have happened. Due to these alleged irregularities, students and parents staged a peaceful protest, asserting that the test lacked transparency.
The petition requested the MDCAT be annulled and called for a retest to ensure fairness and accuracy.
