Lahore, the capital of Punjab, has recorded the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) in Pakistan, reaching a hazardous level of 722 on Thursday morning, according to IQAir. This alarming figure places Lahore in a critical position, far exceeding the safe AQI threshold of 50.
Karachi ranked second, with an AQI of 188, followed closely by Rawalpindi at 183. Other cities such as Peshawar, Islamabad, and Haripur also showed concerning air quality levels, ranging from unhealthy to moderate.
Experts attribute Lahore’s worsening air pollution to industrial emissions, vehicular smoke, and crop burning in surrounding areas. The severe smog poses health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
