Huawei has unveiled its first vehicle under the new Maextro brand, the S800 luxury sedan, to challenge top-tier automakers like Mercedes-Maybach and Rolls-Royce. The S800 is the result of a partnership between Huawei and JAC, and it marks a bold step into the high-end automobile market.
With pre-sale prices ranging from €124,320 to €186,510, the S800 is set to become one of the most expensive vehicles produced in China.
The S800 is a large vehicle, measuring 5480 mm in length, 2000 mm in width, and 1536 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3370 mm. According to Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei’s smart car unit, these dimensions place the S800 in the top 0.01% of vehicles on the road in terms of size. This executive sedan is designed to appeal to wealthy buyers seeking a luxury experience.
The exterior blends classic luxury with futuristic elements. Initially, the car will be available in two colors: a striking purple-silver and an all-black version. One of the standout features is its unique wheel design, described as “flatbread” or “pie rings” by Chinese media, a departure from the typical multi-spoke designs. The front grill is another distinctive element, more rounded than expected for a luxury sedan, giving the car a softer look.
Lighting is a major highlight of the S800’s design. The front of the vehicle features two LED light bars next to the main headlight clusters, surrounded by a “Milky Way” effect of smaller light sources. This design is carried over to the rear lights and the door handles, creating a unified aesthetic. The interior is equally striking, with a “starry sky” roof and two individual rear seats, while spy shots suggest a three-screen design for the dashboard.
Although details about the car’s technical specifications remain limited, Huawei has promised advanced features, including level 3 self-driving capabilities powered by a roof-mounted Lidar unit. The car will integrate three types of intelligence: intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, and intelligent domain control, all based on Huawei’s second-generation Turing platform. The S800 will also include a suite of “super” features, such as Super Cruise, Super Maneuverability, Super Awareness, and Super Privacy, designed to elevate the driving experience.
While the S800 is designed for the Chinese market, it is poised to compete globally, as the demand for luxury electric vehicles continues to rise. With its ambitious price tag and cutting-edge technology, the Maextro S800 could redefine the luxury car market, offering a new level of sophistication for the next generation of high-end EV buyers.
