The Pakistan Blind Cricket Team secured a dominant 10-wicket victory over Nepal in the ongoing Blind T20 World Cup 2024, storming into the semi-finals.
The match, held at the Ghani Institute Cricket Ground on Wednesday, saw Pakistan chase down a modest 101-run target in just 6.4 overs without losing a wicket.
Pakistan’s Dominant Performance
Opening batter Nematullah played a stunning knock, remaining unbeaten on 73 from 30 balls. Alongside him, Mohammad Safdar contributed an impressive 24 not out from 14 balls, guiding the team to their fourth consecutive win in the tournament.
This victory came after a walkover triumph over India earlier this week, further cementing their strong position in the competition.
Nepal’s Struggle with the Bat
Batting first, Nepal struggled to set a challenging target, managing only 100/5 in 18 overs. Despite a gritty knock from Bharat Thapa, who top-scored with 39 off 46 balls, Nepal lacked support from the other end. The second-best scorer for Nepal was Naresh Chaudhary, who made 17 runs off 17 balls.
Haroon Khan was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming 2/5 in his spell, while Muhammad Salman, Matiullah, and Nematullah each took a wicket. Nematullah was named Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance, showcasing his batting and bowling prowess.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Secure Big Wins
In other action from the Blind T20 World Cup 2024, Sri Lanka secured their third win with a 53-run victory over South Africa. Suranga Sampat starred with the bat, scoring 56 off 33 balls, helping Sri Lanka post an impressive 217/6.
South Africa could only manage 164/9, despite fighting efforts from their players. Chandana Deshpriya and Saman Tushara were pivotal with the ball, each taking two wickets.
At the Bagh-e-Jinnah Cricket Ground, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets. Afghanistan, batting first, set a target of 149 in 18.2 overs. Bangladesh chased down the target in just 12 overs, with Arif Hussain playing an outstanding knock of 89 not out from 44 balls.
The first phase of the Blind T20 World Cup 2024 in Lahore has now concluded. After a rest day on November 28, the second phase will begin in Multan on November 29.
