Pakistan to Take Part in Weightlifting Competition in Russia

Pakistan’s weightlifting team is set to compete in the Far East Cup in Russia, scheduled from November 29 to December 3.

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has already issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the national team, which consists of six weightlifters: Haider Sultan, Junaid Ahmed, Danial Aftab, Haider Shakeeb, Hanzla Dastagir, and Alisha Mushtaq.

The team will be accompanied by officials, including M Shahid (team head), Zubair Yousuf (head coach), and coaches Sajjad Amin and M Irfan. The PSB has requested that the weightlifting federation submit a post-visit report following the event.

The precaution is likely due to PSB’s ongoing feud with the PWF.

PSB had earlier decided to suspend the PWF after its 25th PSB meeting on July 6, 2022, based on findings from a delegate appointed by PSB under the directions of the Lahore High Court.

The PSB had also directed all Provincial Sports Boards and relevant government departments to sever any correspondence or cooperation with PWF including financial grants, facility provision, or any other sponsorship dealings.

With cooler heads prevailing once again, the Pakistan weightlifting team has another chance to earn more success for the country.
