The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to receive written instructions from the Interior Ministry to start blocking unregistered virtual private networks in Pakistan.
The issue remains unresolved but PTA sources told ProPakistani a resolution is likely next week.
ProPakistani reported earlier that over 27,000 VPNs have been registered to date and unregistered VPNs will not face immediate closure despite the passing of the deadline. Registration efforts will continue as usual, sources added.
The IT industry, freelancers, and other stakeholders have asked for more time to register VPNs and ensure uninterrupted operations access. PTA officials added that a final decision on the matter is expected next week once guidance from the Interior Ministry is received.
