The Riyadh Metro, Saudi Arabia’s new rapid transit system, has officially launched, marking a major milestone in the Kingdom’s public transportation development. The metro consists of six lines spanning 176 km with 85 stations, providing a seamless and efficient travel experience for residents and visitors.
The Blue (1), Yellow (4), and Purple (6) lines are now operational as part of the soft launch. These lines connect key areas, including Al Orouba, Batha, King Khalid International Airport Road, and other major intersections. The Red (2) and Green (5) lines will open on December 15, and the Orange (3) line is set to launch on January 5, 2025.
The ticket pricing structure includes options for both standard and first-class travel. Standard class fares are SR. 4 for a two-hour pass, SR. 20 for a three-day pass, SR. 40 for a seven-day pass, and SR. 140 for a thirty-day pass. First-class fares are SR. 10, SR. 50, SR. 100, and SR. 350 for the same durations.
Tickets can be purchased through the Darb app, available on Apple and Android devices. Which supports journey planning, QR code ticketing, live bus tracking, and on-demand bus services for better connectivity. The metro system is also integrated with the Riyadh Bus Project, ensuring smooth travel across the city.
Inaugurated by King Salman on November 27, 2024, Riyadh Metro is expected to transform public transportation in the Kingdom’s financial and cultural hub, offering convenient travel options for commuters and tourists alike.
