Pakistan Customs Goes After Government Officers Using Smuggled Cars

In an effort to curb the misuse of authority, Pakistan Customs has introduced a new policy that restricts government officers from using smuggled and tempered cars. This move comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and prevent the exploitation of impounded vehicles for personal use.

The policy is aimed at addressing the growing concern over Customs officials using thousands of impounded vehicles for their own benefit. Under the new regulations, all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) previously issued for smuggled vehicles in use by government officials have been canceled.

To further enforce this policy, the authorities have set clear limits on the number of smuggled and tempered vehicles that can be utilized by Customs offices at the provincial level. The Islamabad Customs Intelligence office is now restricted to a maximum of 12 vehicles, while offices in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar can use up to 10 vehicles each.

This policy is a step toward improving transparency and accountability within the Customs Department. With thousands of impounded vehicles under their custody, the new regulations are expected to prevent any further misuse by Customs officials, ensuring the vehicles are used for legitimate purposes only.

The introduction of these measures reflects the government’s commitment to tackling corruption and improving governance within its institutions.
