PM Shehbaz Sharif Backs Mohsin Naqvi and PCB’s Champions Trophy Stance

Prime Minister (PM) Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his unwavering support for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, emphasizing the nation’s collective commitment to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

During a high-level meeting focused on Pakistan’s preparations for the tournament, Mohsin Naqvi provided a detailed briefing on the progress and challenges associated with the prestigious event.

Lauding Naqvi’s leadership of the PCB, PM Shehbaz Sharif praised his firm stance on hosting the tournament in Pakistan. “Your stance on the Champions Trophy echoes the voice of 240 million Pakistanis,” the Prime Minister remarked. He further emphasized, “For us, Pakistan’s honor comes first, and everything else follows.”

Reaffirming his trust in Naqvi’s efforts, the Prime Minister commended his representation of Pakistan’s aspirations on the global cricketing stage.

The PCB chairman assured the Prime Minister of the board’s readiness to deliver a successful Champions Trophy. “The Pakistan Cricket Board is fully prepared to host the Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” stated Naqvi, adding, “We aim for both Pakistan and cricket to triumph.”

The meeting concluded with optimism, as Naqvi expressed hope for positive developments regarding the tournament. “InshaAllah, good news regarding the Champions Trophy will emerge soon,” he said.

The discussion also addressed the recent postponement of the ICC board meeting, originally scheduled for December 7, 2024. The delay was linked to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s lack of response to the PCB’s proposed “fusion formula.”

This formula suggests that India and Pakistan will not visit each other for ICC events over the next three years. It was introduced after India refused to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy matches.
