The Provincial Cabinet has approved Rs. 3.44 billion to develop Model Bazaars in 13 districts of Punjab, aiming to provide economic relief and support local businesses.
This approval exceeds the initially proposed Rs. 2.5 billion marking a significant step in meeting public needs and boosting community empowerment.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the success of the Model Bazaars, noting that these markets offer essential goods at lower prices than the government-mandated rates. “These bazaars are a lifeline for millions, helping reduce the cost of living and creating job opportunities for the people of Punjab,” the chief minister stated.
She added that the initiative would offer small business owners affordable rents, starting at just Rs. 10,000 per month, promoting entrepreneurship and inclusivity. The approved funds will expand the network of Model Bazaars to 13 new locations across the province.
Currently, 36 bazaars operate in 24 districts, including 10 in Lahore, offering a clean and organized shopping environment with essentials at discounted prices. They are located in cities such as Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Narowal, Jhelum, Chiniot, Sharaqpur, Wazirabad, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Bhalwal, Pattoki, Jaranwala and Chunian.
