Blind Applicant Obtains Driving License After Bribing Officials

An alarming incident in Islamabad has revealed severe corruption within the Traffic Police Department. A blind individual successfully obtained a driving license after bribing traffic police officials, raising significant concerns about public safety on the city’s roads.

This issue came to light during a sting operation conducted by investigative journalist Iqrar ul Hasan and the ARY News Sar-e-Aam team. Acting on a tip-off, the team uncovered that driving licenses were being issued without proper testing or medical inspections. During the operation, a traffic police official and an intermediary were caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 in exchange for issuing a license.

The Sar-e-Aam team demonstrated the lax process by having someone else take the medical test on behalf of the blind applicant. Shockingly, the license was issued without the applicant undergoing any theoretical, medical, or driving tests, exposing severe loopholes in the system. Such actions not only undermine the licensing process but also pose grave risks to public safety.

The issuance of licenses to unqualified drivers not only endangers lives but also undermines trust in the system. Authorities must take decisive action to eliminate such practices and restore integrity to the licensing process.
