Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, has addressed rumors surrounding the omission of Fakhar Zaman from the national squad for the South Africa tour. In a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rizwan stressed that Fakhar’s exclusion was not influenced by any personal bias.
Rizwan dispelled notions of unfairness in team selection, describing Fakhar Zaman as a pivotal player for Pakistan. He stated,
The entire country knows Fakhar Zaman and his capabilities. He’s a unique talent, a game-changer for Pakistan. There’s absolutely nothing personal here, and everyone is hopeful about his return.
He explained that Fakhar’s absence was tied to his health rather than fitness. “He’s not unfit in the conventional sense. Fakhar is dealing with something like a viral fever. It’s not a case of failing a fitness test. Doctors have advised him to focus on the ongoing T20 tournament in Pakistan, where his condition can be monitored closely,” Rizwan added.
Rizwan revealed that the selection committee, coaching staff, and PCB management are united in their support for Fakhar’s recovery. “The entire team management, from the selectors to the coaches, understands his situation. Fakhar’s well-being is a priority, and we are optimistic about his return to the national setup soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman, currently representing the Markhors in the Champions T20 Cup, dismissed claims of being unfit. “I’m fit, which is why I’m playing. If given the opportunity, I’ll play for Pakistan again. I started my career during the Champions Trophy, and my focus remains on performing well and winning games,” Fakhar asserted.
