Apple to Remove Notch From 2026 MacBook Pro With OLED Display

Apple plans to remove the notch from its MacBook Pro lineup by 2026, according to a roadmap shared by research firm Omdia. Future MacBook Pro models, expected to be 14-inch and 16-inch models, will adopt a hole-punch camera design to replace the notch.

While details remain unclear, the change may involve a small pinhole camera or the introduction of a Dynamic Island-style feature similar to that found on iPhones. This could provide space for system alerts like battery notifications. It’s not as useful a feature for MacOS as for iOS. However, removing the notch would increase the usable display area, making more pixels available for the macOS menu bar. This adjustment could also make the overall screen design more uniform.

Additionally, this design update aligns with previous reports suggesting that MacBook Pro models released in 2026 will feature OLED displays. OLED technology would offer better contrast and color accuracy than the Mini-LED panels currently in use. Experts expect that Apple will incorporate OLED technology into the next MacBook Pro redesign, making it thinner and updating other hardware components.

This wanted redesign would mark the first significant update to the MacBook Pro’s design since 2021. The combination of a new camera placement and display technology indicates Apple is making functional and structural changes to its laptop lineup. These changes aim to align with evolving hardware trends while potentially improving user experience through incremental adjustments.
