Islamabad to Cancel Vehicle Registrations Due to Unpaid Token Tax

The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has announced a 15-day deadline for vehicle owners to pay their token tax or risk having their vehicle registration canceled.

A statement from the department confirmed that starting January 1, vehicles with unpaid token taxes will have their registrations revoked.

The department’s software will automatically flag these vehicles, and after the deadline passes, owners will be required to pay a 200% penalty to reinstate their registration.

The decision comes as the number of defaulters continues to rise. During routine checks, excise officers frequently encounter vehicles whose token taxes are overdue, prompting fines.

However, officials noted that these fines have not been effective in curbing the issue, as some vehicles are caught multiple times for the same violation.

Bilal Azam Khan, Director of Excise and Taxation, urged vehicle owners to settle their token tax payments immediately to avoid legal action and additional penalties.
