Meta is working on yet another major update for its popular messaging app WhatsApp. This feature was spotted in the works earlier this year, but it has surfaced on the beta version yet again, indicating that it’s likely coming soon.
WhatsApp is working on a translation feature for individual chats that will convert messages into different languages with a single click. Users can choose between translating a select few messages or every single incoming message in a conversation.
Folks over at WABetaInfo have also shared a screenshot of what the feature looks like.
As the screenshot shows, the live translation feature will not only work for individual and group chats but also for channel updates. You will be able to pick the language WhatsApp translates the messages into and more.
As with most live translation features out there, WhatsApp will likely launch this one with limited support for languages. This means we cannot expect it to translate messages in Urdu straight away, but perhaps in the future, it will enable Pakistani users as well.
At first, it will probably be limited to English and a few other languages, but once more support is added, this feature should help eliminate language barriers for WhatsApp users across the globe.
However, keep in mind that this feature is still in beta, so it is not widely available to everyone as of yet. It is also unclear when we will get this feature in the stable version.
