Former Brazilian Great Announces Decision to Run for CBF Presidency

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário, one of the greatest players in the sport’s history, has officially announced his bid to become the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The two-time World Cup winner (1994, 2002) will run in the 2026 elections, aiming to replace the current president, Ednaldo Rodrigues.

In an interview with a newspaper, Ronaldo expressed his motivation to restore Brazil’s footballing dominance by taking the reins of CBF. “One of my main motivations is to bring back the respect and prestige the Selecao once commanded but has lost in recent years,” he stated.

Ronaldo is celebrated as one of Brazil’s most iconic players. His 15 World Cup goals stood as a record until 2014. His remarkable comeback in the 2002 World Cup, after years of injury struggles, where he scored eight goals—including two in the final against Germany—is etched in football history.

Ronaldo’s decision to enter CBF’s administration reflects his desire to elevate the Selecao and the broader footballing ecosystem in Brazil. His global reputation, coupled with his understanding of both the game and the business side of football, positions him as a formidable candidate for the CBF presidency.

“I want to lead the Selecao back to being the best in the world, not just on the field but in terms of respect, prestige, and influence in global football,” Ronaldo said.

Should Ronaldo win the CBF presidency in 2026, he will face significant challenges, including improving the management of domestic football, addressing corruption concerns, and reviving the national team’s dominance on the world stage.
