IT Ministry Working to Ensure Uninterrupted Internet for IT Parks and Tech Hubs

In response to frequent internet disruptions in Pakistan, the Ministry of IT has initiated work on a policy framework to ensure uninterrupted internet services for IT parks, software houses, Special Technology Zones, incubation centers, and data call centers.

This move comes as the government aims to shield the IT industry from the adverse effects of internet outages and maintain the momentum of IT exports.

According to sources, the Ministry of IT will consult with relevant stakeholders, including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), to finalize the policy. The framework will ensure exemptions for IT parks and data centers during internet shutdowns. This means that even in the event of internet disruptions, these hubs will continue to receive seamless internet connectivity, allowing them to operate without hindrance.

The decision comes after repeated disruptions in internet services this year, which have significantly impacted the operations of the IT industry. Industry representatives, including the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), have raised the issue with the Ministry of IT and PTA, urging the government to prioritize solutions for uninterrupted connectivity. PTA has also established a dedicated cell to address the industry’s complaints and provide technical assistance for implementing the policy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of IT to ensure that the effects of internet disruptions do not reach IT parks, call centers, or incubation centers. The policy, once implemented, will safeguard these vital sectors during periods of slow or interrupted internet. Software houses, call centers, and other technology hubs are set to benefit from this measure, enabling them to maintain productivity and avoid potential financial losses.
