Pakistan left an indelible mark at this year’s US Junior Open Squash Championship with Mahnoor Ali (Girls U-13) and Muhammad Harmas Raja (Boys U-11) earning gold medals in their respective age brackets.
Pakistan’s rising squash prodigy, Mahnoor Ali, etched her name in history by becoming the first Pakistani female to win the 2024 US Junior Open Squash Championship in the Girls U-13 category. The 11-year-old phenom defeated Hong Kong’s Xyan Yin in a gripping final, securing her title with a 3-1 victory (11/6, 11/5, 10/12, 11/8).
This victory solidifies Mahnoor’s growing reputation as a dominant force on the international squash circuit, having already clinched gold at the 2024 Australian Junior Open and a bronze medal at the 7th Borneo Junior Open 2023. With the US Junior Open title, she has now amassed 17 gold medals in her young career.
The BARD Foundation, led by Bilquis and Abdul Razak Dawood, has supported Mahnoor’s journey.
Abdul Razak Dawood expressed his pride in Mahnoor’s achievements:
At an age when most children are caught up in frivolous activities or conventional education, young girls like Mahnoor inspire us with the belief that women have the power to change the world when given the right opportunities and platforms. It is a privilege to be part of her journey.
The foundation’s support underscores the importance of nurturing talent from lesser-known regions, paving the way for athletes like Mahnoor to make Pakistan proud.
Adding to Pakistan’s celebrations, Muhammad Harmas Raja emerged victorious in the Boys U-11 category.
