Starting January 1, 2025, Denmark will introduce a new income requirement for foreign nationals applying for Danish work-based residence permits.
The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) announced that the updated income threshold will ensure that foreign workers’ salaries align with Danish standards before granting permits, according to Schengen.News.
By implementing this change, Denmark aims to guarantee fair treatment for foreign workers, ensuring they receive pay equivalent to their Danish counterparts.
“To obtain a residence and work permit, your salary and employment terms must meet Danish standards. This means your remuneration must align with the norms for the specific type of employment in Denmark,” SIRI stated.
Applications submitted after December 31, 2024, will be evaluated under the new income requirement. Those applying between October 1 and December 31, 2024, will still be assessed based on current standards. The updated rules will only apply to applications filed from January 2025 onwards.
The new salary standards will apply to both initial applications and extensions under the following schemes:
For cases where employment contracts are covered by collective agreements, Danish authorities generally assume salaries meet the required standards. However, if a salary is deemed insufficient, authorities will seek clarification from the employer before deciding on the application.
