With the arrival of colder temperatures following the season’s first winter rain, the prices of chicken meat and eggs have surged across Punjab.
In Lahore, chicken meat prices rose by Rs7 on Saturday, December 23, reaching Rs475 per kilogram, up from Rs468 the previous day. Similarly, the wholesale price of live broiler chickens increased by Rs5 to Rs314 per kilogram, while the retail price climbed to Rs328 per kilogram. The Lahore district administration also revised its price list, increasing the cost of a dozen eggs by Re1 to Rs326.
In Multan, the wholesale price of live broiler chicken now stands at Rs294 per kilogram, with the retail rate at Rs308 per kilogram. Broiler meat is selling at Rs446 per kilogram, while a dozen eggs are priced at Rs324.
Market analysts and traders predict further price increases in the coming days as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a continued drop in temperatures, intensifying the cold wave across Punjab.
