Karachi to Experience Further Drop in Temperature Next Month

The ongoing cold wave in Karachi is expected to intensify further in the second week of January 2025, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, speaking to a local news channel on Wednesday, warned of a further drop in Karachi’s temperatures in January. He also highlighted the likelihood of light rain in parts of Balochistan from January 3 to 5. However, the country is expected to experience lower-than-average snowfall and rainfall this winter.

Karachi has already witnessed single-digit temperatures multiple times this month, with the cold wave impacting several regions nationwide. In Balochistan, temperatures have plunged below freezing in many areas.

The PMD forecasts predominantly cold and dry weather for most parts of the country, with very cold conditions expected in hilly areas during the mornings and nights. Light rain and snow may occur in Kashmir and surrounding hilly regions during the evening and night.

Smog is anticipated to persist in isolated plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during the mornings and nights, while frost may form in parts of Islamabad, the Pothohar region, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the early hours.

In the past 24 hours, several areas recorded extreme cold, with Skardu hitting -11°C, Astore and Gupis -8°C, Gilgit -7°C, Quetta and Ziarat -6°C, and Hunza, Bagrote, and Dir -5°C. As temperatures continue to fall, residents are urged to take precautions against the severe cold and prepare for the intensifying weather conditions.
